The “Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act of 2012″ (RESTORE Act) was passed as part of the “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act” on highways and transportation (H.R. 4348).  For full text please visit THOMAS, which makes legislative information available from the Library of Congress.

NOAA will participate in developing the Comprehensive Plan to improve the ecosystems and economy of the Gulf as required by the RESTORE Act.  NOAA will also establish the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Science, Observation, Monitoring, and Technology Program as mandated by the RESTORE Act. The Act specifies that NOAA will establish the Gulf Science Program within 180 days and that a proposed Comprehensive Plan be developed by Jan 2, 2013 and an initial plan be developed by July 6, 2013.
