NOAA's North Atlantic region extends from Maine to Virginia and is rich with history, culture, and economic opportunities. It is home to more than 70 million people, more than 80 percent of which live in the region's 180 coastal counties.

The region has significant coastal-dependent industries. The ocean economy accounts for 200,000 New England jobs and $11.2 billion of GDP with 75% of the jobs in tourism and recreation. In the Mid-Atlantic, the ocean economy accounts for over 600,000 jobs and $40.2 billion of GDP, with 79% in tourism and recreation and another 12% in marine transportation.
