Pacific Risk Management Ohana (PRIMO) Brings Together Pacific Region Climate ExpertsPRIMO hosted a conference on March 14-17, 2016 entitled Voyage to Resilience: Creating Value through Partnerships. The conference brought together over 200 stakeholders including heads of state, risk managers, Pacific Risk Management Ohana (PRIMO) Brings Together Pacific Region Climate Expertsand the public from throughout the Pacific region to build capacity to prepare for climate change. The event included several training opportunities, coordination meetings, presentations, keynote speakers and a first-ever community night bringing in over 500 members of the local community to learn about climate change and disaster resilience. Highlights of the conference included keynote remarks from the Prime Minister of Tuvalu and the former President of Kiribati, who were recognized for their leadership on addressing impacts of climate change in the Pacific Islands. Blue Planet Foundation founder Henk Rogers and President Tong hosted an intimate conversation on energy solutions for the Pacific.  The wife of the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Salilo Enele, and the wife of the former President of Kiribati, First Lady Nei Meme, also gave talks on gender issues in the Pacific Islands.  NOAA provides leadership for PRIMO by staffing the Executive Director position, as well as by participating in the Navigators Council. NOAA staff also led several panels, including Potential Challenges from Climate Migration to Hawai‘i and U.S. Territories, and Hawai‘i Climate Adaptation Initiative.
